This is a very unique institution. First, it is a college for women. Second, our reviewers, when scanning the Internet for student comments about Agnes Scott College, found that this college’s positive ratings were among the strongest we had seen in the five years we’ve been applying our Best Value criteria to lesser-known colleges and universities. Agnes Scott’s student and alumni love the place! And third, it is affordable. Even though “sticker price” hover in the $40K-$50K range, new students average slightly over $27K in financial aid; the Education Department shows a net cost to attend of $21K.
Another aspect of an “Agnes Scott education” is their somewhat unique Board of Advisors model, which includes a professional advisor for every student for all four years. This model also ensures that each student will travel on a faculty-led global immersion trip in their first year (at no additional cost). This approach to providing an education based on a core curriculum is focused on global learning and leadership development. They refer to it as their SUMMIT program. We like that.
Located in the Metro Atlanta area (Decatur, GA), this is a bricks-and-mortar (i.e., all classroom based) college. Racially mixed, which in our opinion is a good thing for the student body, 97% of whom are age 24 and under, Agnes Scott College offers popular bachelor programs in biology, social science, psychology, and public health. We urge females seeking a good education in a great atmosphere to take a serious look at Agnes Scott College.
