Harding University is one of the larger institutions selected for a 2017 Best Value School Awards with about 6,000 students, including 1,550 in graduate programs. Most (94%) of Harding’s undergraduates are under 25 years of age and attend fulltime. Of those in Harding’s graduate programs over half attend part time, and half take courses online. This flexibility is one of the reasons we looked closely in considering Harding University for a Best Value School Award.
Clearly a “Christian institution,” Harding University is located on 350 acres in Searcy, Arkansas, which is northeast of Little Rock and west of Memphis, both of which are accessible by good highways. Affiliated with the churches of Christ, Harding attracts students from 50 states and a few foreign countries (over 70% are from outside Arkansas). These students select from about 100 areas of study and degree programs offering bachelor, master and doctorate degrees. According to data from the U.S. department of Education and from Harding University itself, net cost to attend for first year fulltime students is around $18,000. While Harding’s sticker price is almost $29,000 it is reduced by generous financial aid, including institutional grants and scholarships.
Popular programs include bachelor, master and doctor degrees in education, health professions and in theology. Bachelor and master degrees in business also attract a large number of enrollees, as do bachelor programs offered in biology, communication, computer science/IT, exercise science, and psychology. Harding has study abroad programs, and 40% of graduates take one semester at a Harding “campus” in foreign countries. For an individual interested in a Christian university, Harding should be on the take-a-close-look list. Their degree offerings are comprehensive, the cost is reasonable, and the students think very highly of the school, its faculty, and fellow students.
"Harding University has provided me with not only an education, but an education based on biblical principles. I have learned to be a diligent student as well as a diligent follower of Christ during my time here. I would encourage anyone who is considering a university with strong ethics and superb academics to invest in this university."
