Baker University

Baldwin City, Kansas

4-year, Regionally accredited

Affiliation: United Methodist

Degrees: Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate

This Kansas-based institution offers over 40 areas of study but when examining degrees awarded it is clear Baker University’s most popular degree programs are majors in business and education.  Business programs include associate, bachelor and master degrees (MBA; organizational leadership).  Programs in education include master degrees as well as doctorates plus a few bachelor programs.  Baker also has a good BSN program and one of their fastest growing majors is exercise science, which should attract enrollees as the fitness boom continues, creating many jobs for degreed instructors and business managers.

It is interesting to note that many of Baker’s students, not include fulltime enrollees at their Baldwin City campus, attend part time.  Three-quarters in graduate programs and over one-third in undergraduate programs are part-timers.  And more than one-third of all Baker enrollees are 25 and older, which indicates this is an institution that is favored by working adults.  Another statistic supporting a high interest in Baker’s graduate programs is that 35% of its grad students take courses online.  And their unusual one-class-at-a-time program, unusual in that it allows students to concentrate on a single course in order to accelerate degree completion, is something we like.

Cost to attend for fulltime undergraduates is about $20,000 – far less than Baker’s posted “sticker price” in the $40,000 range.  The much lower actual cost results from 100% of its students receiving generous institutional grants and scholarships.  Annual costs for graduate students hovers around $10,000.  These relatively low costs to attend, Baker’s popular programs in business and education, and a preponderance of positive student comments qualifies Baker University for a 2017 Best Value Award.  We recommend you take a close look at Baker and suggest you may find their approach to higher education to be quite appealing.  We did.
