Don’t let the sticker price of Roberts Wesleyan College, almost $44,000 according to the U.S. Department of Education’s College Navigator website, quickly make you close the door on this college. The actual net cost to attend (first year fulltime students), according to that same government site, is really $22,300. This is possible because 99% of the college’s students receive financial aid, and 97% of them are awarded grants and scholarships directly by the school. Although we feel that inflated sticker prices serve no useful function other than to promote the illusion of “if it’s expensive it must be good,” we are pleased with institutions like Roberts Wesleyan that use real-world actual pricing when all is said and done.
This is a “classroom college” as opposed to one offering blended learning, i.e., part classroom and part online. Since a quarter of Roberts Wesleyan’s undergraduate students are over the age of 24, and most are from the State of New York, we presume the Rochester, NY campuses are well suited for a serious learning experience. Many faiths are represented in the student population and there is an open tolerance evident by students, faculty and administration.
There are some online courses, but only a limited selection (as of 2015-16 school year). Popular programs include bachelor and master degrees in health (BSN included), business, education (special education master’s), psychology, and social work. Bachelor degree programs include criminal justice and communication, among others. A four-season Upstate New York climate, a very livable city (Rochester), and some great academic programs at reasonable costs all merit close inspection at Roberts Wesleyan College.
