Northwest Nazarene University

Nampa, Idaho

4-year, Regionally accredited

Affiliation: Church of the Nazarene

Degrees: Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate

Located in Nampa, Idaho, which is west of Boise, Northwest Nazarene University is home to just over 2,000 students, half from out of state and 30% of which are 25 or older; about 80% attend on a fulltime basis.  Over half its graduate students take their courses online while less than 20% of the undergraduates are online.  One of the eleven Church of the Nazarene affiliated universities in the USA, this institution provides 99% of its students with financial aid including institutional grants and scholarships.  Our first look at their sticker price for first year students attending fulltime, $39,000, put them out of our Best Value range, but we learned average net cost was actually in the $19,000-$20,000 range which qualified Northwest Nazarene for a closer look by our researchers.

We liked this institution’s range of academic programs, the most popular of which is education, where students can earn bachelor’s, master’s and doctor’s degrees.  Also offering bachelor and master degrees are programs in business, health professions, theology, and social work. Bachelor degree programs in sports/fitness and in visual/performing arts also draw students.  The majority of comments we found by students and alumni were positive (see three representative comments below).

Northwest Nazarene’s Christ-centered philosophy isn’t for everyone, but if you are serious about your Christian faith and think you may be interested in a life of service you may want to consider this university.  And the Idaho location offers many outdoor activities in a beautiful setting.

What our Students are Saying...

"Four years in a wonderful science and engineering department I wouldn't trade for anywhere else. My wife is also graduating from here this semester. We absolutely loved our time at NNU. "

"The campus community is so uplifting at NNU, not only do the profs actually care about the students but the entire campus is really connected, everyone knows everyone else. I don't feel like I have missed out on anything by going to a Christian college, if anything I have had more social and academic opportunities because of the small setting and I love it! "

"This University has an excellent reputation for providing a quality education. The faculty members are caring and very well trained in their fields. The quality of the education I am receiving will be used to help further my career as well as provide me with spiritual well-being."
