Located outside Kansas City, Benedictine College follows in a long history of quality “Catholic” education. This institution attracts out-of-state students (over 70% of enrollment) because of its highly regarded undergraduate programs in business, psychology and nursing. While there are a few programs in theology – not unusual for a Catholic college – they also offer programs in the social sciences.
The majority (85%) of students live on campus, and there are no online programs offered, so if you are interested in this institution be prepared for a traditional college experience (which isn’t a bad thing).
Our researchers, myself included, take special interest in two things when evaluating a college for possible inclusion as a Best Value School awardee. Cost is important. We refrain from recommending schools whose cost to attend is, or will become, a burden. Benedictine College posts a high stocker price – about $42,000 – but don’t let that scare you off. They are very generous with grants and scholarships (98% of their students receive this type of financial aid), bringing the “net cost” down to about $25,000. While this is near our “cost cutoff” for colleges, we feel Benedictine offers value for the money and recommend this institution wholeheartedly.
