Nashville based Tennessee State University is one of the famous HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) although its 9,000 student population consists of over 2,700 people of other races. This reasonably priced (for Tennessee residents) institution attracts enrollees from out of state at about twice the resident cost, but still brings them into Nashville for great academic programs and related social opportunities. Almost 30% of TSU’s students are older than 24, which with the diverse racial mix, offers serious students a unique learning experience.
Tennessee State University offers a wide range of academic programs, including many bachelor and master degrees, plus doctorate programs (biology, education, therapy, and engineering). Popular are the degree programs in agriculture, biology, business, communications, various health disciplines, criminal justice, public administration, and the arts. There are also bachelor and master degree programs in health/fitness, which has great appeal to those interested in sports and related management programs.
At an average net cost to attend for undergraduates, this university is a great bargain. Its students think highly of TSU, its mission is to prepare people for the real world, and we recommend it as a good choice for the serious student.
"Tennessee State University is a large campus full of many different personalities and opportunities. The best thing about attending a historically black college is all the historical mementos that are around campus. Tennessee State university is a great school and I recommend this school to others."
