Current enrollment at Lee University is about 5,300 including 4,600 undergraduates over 80% of whom attend fulltime. Located on 106 acres in Cleveland, Tennessee, which is 30 miles northeast of Chattanooga, Lee University is sponsored by the Church of God and promotes what they refer to as Service-learning. They emphasize Christian citizenship and take this very seriously – and the students love it! A great number of positive remarks by Lee’s students puts it among the most admired colleges and universities we researched for our 2017 Best Value School Awards.
While bachelor and master degree programs in education, psychology and business are among the most popular of Lee’s 52 majors, their number one program by degrees awarded in 2015-16 is theology/religious vocations, which also offers bachelors and masters. We saw that Lee has interesting bachelor programs in advertising/digital media/PR and in health services. Some of the courses are available online but most are delivered in a campus classroom.
Net cost to attend, for first year fulltime students according to the Department of Education’s College Navigator website, is around $18,000. We think this is very reasonable as financial aid for 96% of Lee’s students brings the sticker price of around $30,000 down to a much more manageable level. Three-quarters of its students receive generous institutional grants and scholarships, so Lee University bends a bit to allow those who will benefit from a “Lee education” to attend.
