A repeat Best Value School Designee, Lincoln Memorial University offers over thirty degree programs, but the ones that impressed our reviewers were the master’s programs in education, RN and PA (physician assistant), and the doctoral programs in osteopathic medicine and law. Lincoln Memorial University added a doctoral program in veterinary medicine. Their associate’s program for RNs also is noteworthy. We think this institution, with its reasonable cost to attend and its unique rural location, merits consideration from those seeking an advanced degree in the health professions.
With an enrollment over 3,700 students, over half of which are in graduate programs, and a beautiful but perhaps remote campus, this institution draws underclassmen from an area that reaches about 150 miles from its base in Harrogate, Tennessee (fifty or so miles north of Knoxville near the Kentucky state line). Many graduate students are drawn from outside that area and most like the learning environment.
We liked the cost to attend, the graduate programs, and found most student comments to be favorable. The negative comments we found were – we concluded – from undergraduate students that appeared to be a bit immature and naïve, especially when they complained about costs. Apparently students who think the school is expensive were not aware they could request help with grants, scholarships and other types of aid to lower their net cost.
